Wendi Safstrom

Wendi Safstrom is an accomplished nonprofit leader with extensive experience in association management, strategic partnerships, and workforce development. She currently serves as President of the SHRM Foundation, overseeing its programs, fundraising, and communications to align with SHRM’s broader goals. Previously, she was Vice President at the National Restaurant Association and its Educational Foundation, where she led workforce initiatives supporting youth, veterans, and workers. Notably, she expanded a high school career and technical education program to over 2,000 schools and directed a \$10 million U.S. Department of Labor contract to launch the hospitality industry’s first apprenticeship program. Safstrom also played a key role in relocating and transforming the Foundation’s operations and culture. Earlier in her career, she held HR roles at Leo Burnett and Hyatt Hotels. She holds a BS in Business Administration from Michigan State University and serves on the boards of Global MindED and the Center to Advance CTE.
