
Managing Director - Institute for Extended Learning at Imperial College London
Heather Haseley is the inaugural Managing Director of the newly formed Institute of Extended Learning (IEL) at Imperial College London, which is one of the pillars of Imperial's ambitious Science for Humanity strategy. She is leading efforts to future-proof careers, businesses, and communities by providing advanced STEMB training and values-driven leadership for a tech-enabled world. Heather's work focuses on driving innovation, equity, and impact in higher education to uplift learners globally to shape a brighter future.
Previously, Heather served as the Dean of Postgraduate and Online Education, the Director of Education Innovation, Director of the Centre for Online Education, and a Professor of Practice in Education at the University of Exeter. Through these roles, she led the transformation of Exeter’s educational offerings, including co-designing the institution-wide skills-based curriculum refresh, scaling the online education capabilities and portfolio and co-drafting the institutional AI strategy. As Co-Founder and Executive Director of ASU Learning Futures, she built a significant innovation and experimentation hub, securing substantial partnerships and grants while prototyping the future of learning through immersive and tech-enabled experiences with partners like Zoom and Unity. Heather has also served in leadership roles at UPenn, Northwestern, and Columbia University fostering innovation in learning through the creation of new centers, programs, communities of practice, and learning experiences.
She has been featured at conferences and in major publications across the globe for her expertise on learning innovation/futures, immersive learning (AR, VR, XR), digital credentials, skills development, the future of work, giving feedback, learning design, and partnership development. Heather holds a Bachelor of Philosophy from Northwestern University and a Master of Science in Education Entrepreneurship from the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education.
